^ Thanks for the titles and order, Sarah. Right now, all the books I've requested from the library seem to be coming in at once, so will have to wait on reading SP, but the complete titles really help. :)

Thats so shitty! But now that you mention it, I remember being really surprised at how many people weren't at the theater when I went. We got there really early to buy our tickets to be safe, and not even half the theater got filled, and people were coming in late and everything. Though, my friends and I got everyone to join in a round of applause when the film started and when it finished :D
Well, I just checked Edgar's Twitter, and I'm glad to see that he's pleased with the box office numbers. I just really REALLY wanted him to get, like, in the top 2 or 3. (I'm taking some comfort in the fact that the new Julia Roberts' film wasn't #1.) Maybe it's one of those films that will pick up momentum later, as opposed to the first weekend. I'm guilty myself as I probably won't get a chance to see it until later this week (at the earliest).

Since Edgar's not in this pic, I'll post it here. From the Aug 16 premiere of SP in Dublin:

:?
I wrote a comment there yesterday, which was this:
Quote:
Part of the problem is the trailer. A guy I know, who is fully into a lot of "geek" stuff, has been reluctant to see this because to him it looks like a silly teen flick; it's SO much BETTER than that!!
Also, it really bugs me that a movie is dubbed a "flop" or "failure" just because it doesn't make bazillion dollars in its first weekend. Some films need time for word-of-mouth to bring in the dollars.

And some twat has jumped on there & written several paragraphs of rubbish, dumping all over the film & novels, & the fans! So wrote this back to him:
Quote:
j1607760, you're just another boring faceless hater. *yawn*
If you had a life, or friends, you wouldn't have wasted your time & ours by spewing all that venomous bile. Tell someone who cares, you movie critic wanna-be. You obviously just don't get it, so you dump all over those of us who do.
By the way, you used "it's" in the wrong context, when you should've used "its". Seems you're the one with few brain cells.

I'm not to be trifled with this week. Grrrr! :x

Feel the love for Scott Pilgrim.
dolfyn.
:P

Well I won't argue that it was a no-holds-barred adrenaline-fuelled thrill-ride, but there's no way you could perpetrate that amount of carnage & mayhem & not incur a considerable amount of paperwork.

^ I didn't mean to get you (or any of you here) upset by posting that link. :(
I think it must be doing well locally, 'cause I just checked the showtimes for Friday (when new films are released) and SP is going from 8 showings a day to 9 showings at one of the biggest theater chains here.

I'm surprised that there's anyone out there who thought that this movie would do brilliantly at theatres. It's a movie that will be watched more on dvd, just because of the subject matter alone.

And besides, why would anyone care how it did at the box office, as long as you liked it.

^ You definitely make some valid points, Glenn, especially about the film being more popular on DVD than in theaters. It just seemed to me that there were a lot of SP fans out there, so I did assume it would do better than it did in the theaters. As for box office, of course it's not a big deal to me personally, but status-wise, this was Edgar's first effort with a big budget Hollywood film, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the film industry really does care about box office numbers. And on a selfish note, I'm still hoping that someday Edgar (and/or Simon & Nick) will do press/promotion in my area, and the better his films perform, the more likely that becomes. (I know this is a pipe dream as American filmmakers don't even come here.) Image

I can't express how proud I am of Eball at the moment. Whether he realized it or not, he's masterminded a full-blown photo meme: PRANCING CERA FTW!!!

So I was lucky enough to get to go to the New Beverly midnight show last night, which Edgar said he wasn't going to be at... because he's a goddamned liar. ;) I had a feeling he'd turn up, since I could tell from his recent tweets that he was still in L.A. Anyway, it was effing FANTASTIC... and he brought most of the cast plus Michael Bacall, Bill Pope and Bryan Lee O'Malley with him:

Image

I think pretty much everyone showed except Chris Evans and Jason Schwartzman. (They didn't all come back for the Q&A, but a lot did - Brie Larson, Mark Webber, Johnny Simmons, Satya Bhaba, Pope, Bacall and Cera. We didn't get out of there till 3 a.m.!)

The rest of my photos are here!

A couple of explanations:
- Re: the first shot - I got to go because the company I'm working for now has the official license for Scott Pilgrim tees, so we brought along a selection to be part of the raffle they did before the show. Ultimately, the last one left was a slim-fit ladies tee and a guy won it, and the audience started shouting "Put it on! Put it on!" So, he did. That's him about halfway into it. Hee.
- The blurring "action" jumping shots: That's Edgar and Michael Cera high-fiving a kid who didn't ask a question, but begged them to let him high-five them like the Vegan Police. They agreed but Edgar said he then had to run back to his seat in slow motion. Mission accomplished.

Love them! What fun!

I know this should be more in the Girlie Edgar Thread . . but my goodness he does look handsome in this pic: http://www.flickr.com/photos/13628163@N ... 957554005/

And . . why did Cera have a backpack? and what was up with the red ski mask?

Tim: I know, I’d look like a twat in a jumpsuit.
Daisy: Don’t say that, Tim. That’s a word that hates women.
Tim: What, twat?
Daisy: No, jumpsuit.

NO ONE KNOWS. Heh. No seriously, though, he had the backpack with him and one of the questions was "What's in Michael's backpack?"... he opened it up and produced that ski mask. (Edgar said: "Not many people know this, but Michael's one of the most prolific cat burglars in L.A.")

Oh! It's the Prancing Cera ski mask!

Cera was wearing a backpack because he's a hipster.
